I’m thrilled to welcome bikini competitor, fitness enthusiast and model Kayla Rose as our very first guest on the “MFS Fit Babe Spotlight” Series.
Our goal in launching these series, is to inspire & educate you on how to live a healthy, fit and happy lifestyle, through the experience, passion & knowledge of everyday gals that have made it a reality in their own lives.
The “MFS Fit Babe Spotlight” series will introduce you to a new “Fit Babe” every single month, who will share her fitness passion, tips and struggles with us all, isn’t that exciting!
Kayla, welcome to My Fit Station and thank you, once again, for breaking the ice and sharing your goodness with us all!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and how your fitness journey began…
Health and fitness is truly my passion; my heart and soul; and my purpose. This journey has brought me numerous amounts of happiness and opportunity. It is my strong belief to show people and help them find their inner beauty from motivating and showing them it can be done. We all have our own unique qualities, no matter what age, shape, or form. I believe that if we find our inner strength and confidence, we have succeeded.

I can say I have always been a fan of fitness and staying active. I have grown up in a healthy environment, with my parents as examples to show me the ropes to eating clean and staying busy. It was then my choice to either live by those guidelines or steer away, and fall into bad habits like the majority of the population today. It is my belief that just because a large portion of our population has fallen into this unhealthy rut, habits can be changed to a healthier lifestyle. It is up to the healthy lifestyle minority to push forth and help those who may not be able to gain control and find their strength to ultimately get back to healthy human living. I feel compelled, as well as the urge to share my personal journey, and in the end, help others to succeed!
Honestly, Instagram, yes, a social media, has been a godsend to the population! lol. It has turned into a huge fitness arena, seeming to help everyone stay motivated, and jump on the health and fitness bandwagon! Getting a shout out or even hearing compliments from others seems to help people keep going, knowing they are getting recognition for their efforts. I think it’s been great!
What is your training philosophy and how does your workout program look like?
Well, it is pretty basic, eat clean, train hard, sleep, drink tons of water, etc. Diet is the main factor, you can’t out train a bad diet. Go to the gym 5-6 days a week, really push yourself every rep! And of course having control of your mind for will power, self-discipline, dedication, persistency, and so on, without having that control, this lifestyle may be hard to sustain.
Remember we are all human, and we are not perfect, we all have “off-days”, so don’t be too hard on yourself, and really listen to your body! Take baby steps.
I will hit the gym 5-6 days a week, usually Sundays I take off. I always base my days and which muscles groups to work on how my body feels, and if one muscle group is too sore, I listen and work around it by switching days!

What are your beliefs about nutrition? Can you give us an example of what your daily diet looks like?
Like Hippocrates said: “Let Food Be Thy Medicine.” I couldn’t agree more. Not that I am saying in any way that I don’t also believe in western medicine, in fact, I believe in both Eastern and Western philosophy and medicine. I think they go hand in hand and are both beneficial!

I believe Nutrition is 80% and Exercise is 20%; no matter how many hours you spend in the gym, you cannot out train a bad diet! If you do not eat clean and provide your body with the right fuel, you will not get the results you want.
What do I mean when I say “Eat Clean” or the “right fuel?” I mean NATURAL, straight from the source, not processed or packaged! (Don’t let the industry fool you with their claims that their packaged products are “all natural,” “no sugar added,” or even “organic.” If it does not say Certified Organic it is not truly organic. Also look for Non-GMO products!

Your metabolism is like a fire, you must keep your metabolism burning, eating every 2-3 hours. When you do not eat for more than 3 hours, your body goes into starvation mode, storing anything else that you consume as fat! So eat MORE, not less!

How do you stay focused, disciplined and committed to your fit and healthy lifestyle?
It is all Mental!! Once you conquer your mind, then you can conquer your body. Your body is your minds servant, unfortunately.
Everyday is a choice, you have to wake up and mentally choose to make good choices. It is very important to stay strong and not to give in with the urges and cravings or wanting to quit.
It is all about self control and self discipline. I wouldn’t repeat it so much if it wasn’t. You DO have control over your mind and body if you try, so don’t let it control you! Do not let the uncomfortable feelings of change stop you! Change is good!

What has been your biggest achievement when it comes to fitness so far?
I would probably have to say my mind set. With all the people I have met and all the research I have done, externally and internally, there is so much I have learned. Not only about myself, but about others, and how different each and every one of us really is.
*Helping others is what really brings me TRUE happiness. Yes the competition was a great experience, the modeling has been fun, but in the end, when I hear the words, “you inspire me” “you are the reason I lost xx amount of pounds” or even “you turned my life around” that is the greatest reward!

Of course I will never stop learning, this is a life-long journey, and I will continue on in hopes to help many more, and others to help me learn more!
What are your current and future fitness related goals and projects?
Some people ask…”Is all you do just train and model?” NO WAY! I am a full time student with a part time job. I’m sure you can guess what I am going to school for……yes, I am going to eventually acquire a Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics to become a Nutritionist.
I have lots of things I would like to accomplish in this lifetime, but I have also learned that it is important to focus on one thing at a time to get the best end results, and most of all to be patient with time.

I have already attained my Personal Training License, an Esthetician License, CPR Certificate, Lifeguard Certified, Medical Missionary Certified, I have represented a Cancer Awareness Movement called “Get ‘Em Checked,” I have competed in a Bikini Competition in NPC, the Grand Prix, been sponsored by different companies… so I am crossing off my bucket list, and trying to live in the moment and not look too far in the future! (I know we are all guilty of that sometimes…lol)

What advice would you give to people who are struggling in staying committed and reaching their fitness goals?
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! If it were easy, everyone would do it! Life is a game, you just have to play it right. Once you conquer your mind you can conquer your body…and anything else you set your mind to!!

Remember that living this lifestyle can be hard at times, especially with the environment we live in currently that makes it easier to access junk vs. healthy food, and a constant reminder with commercials, fast food joints on every corner, and so on. Just stay strong, fight the temptation and don’t give up!
****Also, the way I look in the professional shot photos, are NOT how I walk around every day…. It takes a lot of prep and manipulation of the diet to look that lean and it is not healthy if you look like that every day! I look a lot softer, a little more body fat, and hydrated on a day-to-day basis! A lot of people get discouraged when looking at professional photos thinking that all these models look like that!
What are your top 2 favorite exercises?
That’s hard considering I love working out every body part!! It differs from week to week to be honest; one week I look forward to killing legs while other weeks I look forward to hitting shoulders!
It’s a love-hate relationship with squats, I love the results, but hate doing them in the moment lol! I love all ab exercises; they feel the best to me!
