Tell us a little bit about yourself and how your fitness journey began…
I am 27 years old and live in Roseville, CA. I have always been athletic, a dancer since I was 7, volleyball, track, snowboarding team…but I had no CLUE what good nutrition was!
I had a fast metabolism so it didn’t show much on the outside, but its what’s on the inside that was unhealthy. One of my high school friends, Jessica, had become a health and fitness coach and I watched her movement on Facebook.
I was living in New Zealand at the time as a whitewater rafting guide and I was sick of the partying, drinking, and weight gain. My body was exhausted.
I contacted her and once I got back to the United States we met up to chat about nutrition and the health coaching opportunity and I haven’t looked back!
What is your training philosophy like and how does your workout program look like?
The philosophy I follow is 80% nutrition, 20% exercise, and 100% mindset. With the 20%, I focus on workouts that I enjoy! You won’t find me at the gym with headphones on… you will find me in group workouts (yoga, Crossfit, or hikes with friends), cheering people on and giving high fives. Did you know that you are 30% more productive when you smile and feel good?
So I put that towards my workouts and it works WONDERS!
My usual week consists of:
- 2-3 yoga classes,
- 3 Crossfit classes,
- a hike thrown in there somewhere,
- and my coaching (I get a small workout in here!).
With proper nutrition your body can push limits like you never expected!
What are your beliefs about nutrition? Can you give us an example of what your daily diet looks like?
The 80% nutrition is where the magic happens!
I focus on nutrient timing to get the maximum results out of my plan. I hate the word diet! Its a lifestyle! And it needs to be practiced every day. A typical day of eating for myself? :
- 6:30 a.m. – Breakfast Shake and Herbal tea
- 8:30 a.m. – Lean Protein Snack/small meal
- 10:30 a.m. – Lean Protein Snack
- 12:00 p.m. Colorful Meal (1/3 lean protein – 2/3 complex carbs) and Herbal tea
- 2:00 p.m. – Lean Protein Snack
- 4:30 p.m. – Lean Protein Snack/small meal
- 7:00 p.m. – Colorful Meal
- 9:00p.m. – Snack
Now, this may seem like a lot of food, but the snacks and meals are small yet substantial so my metabolism stays HIGH and POWERFUL! It takes the human body roughly 2 hours to digest food, and you want to stoke your metabolism as you would a fire.
How do you stay focused, disciplined and committed to your fit and healthy lifestyle?
The 100% mindset is how I stay focused and committed. Every morning I wake up and visualize my day. I set my intentions for the day with positive affirmations so my subconscious can carry these throughout my day.
I also read or listen to some personal development to set my mindset up for GREATNESS and from there, I can achieve anything! I push away negativity with an abundance of positivity. This actually causes my eating to be cleaner, I workout more efficiently, and my conversations with loved ones are more meaningful.
Being positive is just AMAZING!
What is your biggest achievement when it comes to fitness so far?
My biggest achievement with fitness so far is my overall physique, inside and out. I thought I could never change the style of body I had, but I DID! And having accomplished that through fitness and nutrition is such a good feeling! Being so healthy from the inside out also allows me to be very much in touch with my body’s needs. I can tell when my iron is low, when I need protein, when my blood sugar is low, when I am needing vitamins, its amazing!
What are your current and future fitness related goals and projects?
My next goal is to compete in a figure competition! I have been so nervous to do this next step, but I KNOW I can!
What advice would you give to people who are struggling in staying committed and reaching their fitness goals?
When it comes to the struggle of commitment and reaching your goals, realize that it’s human nature to encounter challenges . There is a huge point right there…changing your language from “Struggle” to “Challenge”. If you have it in your mind that you “Struggle” with something, then you will continue to struggle.
As long as your mind believes it to be so, it will be so. Practice changing your language and your results will sky-rocket! Also, putting your goals on paper, your mirror, pictures on your wall, somewhere that you can see it everyday, so that you are reminded of WHY you are aiming for those goals, is truly helpful. Look at those pictures or the words on your mirror, and tell yourself “I CAN do it”! Get rid of any doubt that is in your mind, no matter how far along you are on your health and fitness journey.
That 100% mindset is KEY!!
What are your top 2 favorite exercises?
My favorite exercises are deadlifts and the bicycle crunch!!! Work that booty and abs!
Can you give us 3 Fun Facts about yourself?
1. I am an amazing tap dancer!
2. I have lived in a tent for 6 months
3. I graduated college with a double degree in Dance and Fine Arts/Sculpture
