In order to keep a “balanced state of mind” & stay well grounded, I actually try to limit my consumption of health, fitness, and wellness information. Just like I limit the news because it can be negative, I do the same with health info…
While I do find it interesting, I think it is important to be interested in a diverse amount of things like art, music, pop culture even. So that’s what I do now. I try to read fiction as well, which really helps keep me grounded and not stuck in any one area too much. I used to be obsessed with wellness info and would cloud my mind with it so I couldn’t allow any unique thoughts in or even pay attention or care about anything else.
By constantly noticing cool new stuff and getting excited about trying new things, I stay inspired & committed to my healthy lifestyle!
When I fall “off-track”, I forgive myself immediately, which is crucial in my opinion!
In the past, when I would “fall off-track”, I would beat myself up and then in that guilt or shame I would repeat more of the negative behavior. For example, if I overate emotionally, I would first guilt myself then I would cope with that guilt by eating more and say to myself something like, “well you just messed up, might as well eat more since you’ve already gone down this road”.
But now I wouldn’t do that, I would come back immediately because I realize in that moment of awareness, I can change and pivot and I don’t have to keep repeating and fueling the negative behavior and if I switch my mindset quickly, it is easier to come back to a loving and empowering state. Like if I overeat 2 cookies – it is a lot easier to come back from than 12 cookies. Either way though, it is fine and I am kind to myself and try not to judge it anymore.
My best advice on becoming the best version of yourself would simply be to… BE REAL. When you are authentic and vulnerable it can be scary at times, sure, but people love you most when you are unapologetically YOU. The more you allow yourself to be that way, the more people will be able to connect with you and the more you will feel like yourself and enjoy the journey.
