So how do you keep your mind fit? Create adaptability. Learn how to thrive anywhere, under any circumstance, with any crew of company. How do you do that? Be like a force field. Create a mindset that prospers in any weather. The doorway: Identity. How you see yourself. An affirmation: I am the architect of my life; I build its foundation and choose its contents. I have unlimited power at my disposal.
Build yourself up internally (through reading, intentional powerful thought, meditation, prayer) so that when life comes at you in chaos, you respond with internal resilience. Prepare before the storm hits.

Cortisol is a hormone released in response to stress. There’s work stress but your body can interpret many other events as stress. Having low blood sugar is a stress, eating fast is a stress and too little sleep is a stress. Stress overtime can contribute to disease.
If you want to be successful, you need to rest. A lot. Because maximal creativity and inventive thought flows when you are rested & sharp. Of course, don’t swing to the other side of laziness; you also need to work your tail end off. But after you pour yourself out—you are spent—then you can fill back up. It’s not selfish to take care of yourself and to make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary. What you do in a workout, you should do in life. Full intensity and focus until you are spent. Then replenish your fuel stores.
Get recharged. Refreshed. Rejuvenated. Sweat. Sabbath. Speak your heart to a loved one. Spend time attending to your body. There is major disconnect for most of us between our mind and our body. We aren’t even mindful of the fact that we have toes, feet and a diaphragm as we get ‘up in our head’ when we are sitting and thinking all day. To bring it back down, do a mind-releasing activity like. Running, biking, skating, painting, swimming etc. Anything that dilates the blood vessels is a body reset: sweating in a sauna, getting a massage, sprints.
Deliberate means you plan it in your calendar! If you are a business owner, entrepreneur or student, your work is never done when you leave the work site or building. It becomes absolutely critical to have boundaries for work and home. Why? So that you actually get rested! If you always have work matters hanging around, work begins to seem like it encompasses your entire life. Create a divide between work and rest. Clarity is power here. Having clear boundaries of what is a work space. What can and cannot be done during specific hours I set for myself. It’s about setting rules for yourself—for your benefit & productivity.
Secret of Change
To change your mind or your habits, you really need to grasp how it benefits your life. Or how an ineffective activity is really harmfully affecting you. It helps to write this out in a pros/cons type list. Change MUST be self-initiated. This can be difficult because we want to be loving to those around us, trying to change them. But change must be self-initiated.
Many times someone experiences a major health crisis and must make a major life change—altering their food drastically and creating major lifestyle shifts. Some people even move to remote locations or facilities to recover, as it removes modern stressors from their life. But really, if we don’t want to get cancer, we should be living our life like we want to prevent it.
So that we can avoid a moment of crisis when we must abandon all and have forcible, drastic change. Beat the disease before it happens: eat a ton of plant foods now!

A close friend told me as we had a long hiking conversation that she set her computer password as: Balance. It is a constant reminder. Everyone struggles with balancing life and finding focus. If you pursue a great mission, sometimes you will find yourself out of balance. The mark of greatness is the effectiveness in which you are able to recalibrate. Or while in the midst of a stressful season, to have established such solid, empowering habits that there is little effort to keep them. You remain vital and strong, with little thought put into it.
